Post Office Followup

Monday, October 15th, 2007

I finally received my sandwich in the mail. [see first write up] The post office sent out a “lunch bag” complete with an image of the sandwich I built - and a whole bunch of information on why direct mail campaigns can boost your business.

The key to direct mail in today’s marketplace is personalization. And with the technology that’s out there, personalization is easier than every. So my sandwich was labled “The Osterberg Supreme”. The front of the brochure had an image of a sandwich board, complete with a message directed to “Lori”. And included was a DVD with a complete presentation - and of course the DVD was personalized to me.

Does all of these attract my attention? You bet.

Does it make me want to look at the DVD? You bet.

And does it make me want to invest in this type of technology in the future. You bet!

Market BIG - Think Like You’re In Las Vegas

Monday, October 8th, 2007

I just returned from three days in the city of lights - Las Vegas. For any of you that have ever been there, you know there’s nothing small about Vegas. It’s all on a grand scale - everything you could possibly imagine, and then some.

I’ve been to Vegas dozens of times, yet I always find something new. This town has a HUGE advertising budget, so they try everything.

Take the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay. On your trek back through the casino to the exhibit, you come across a large wall mural projected through digital imaging. When the kids run between the projection system and the wall, the mural bubbles and looks like water moving - and the kids love it. Of course you have to read the mural while your kids are playing - pretty smart move.

The idea behind Vegas is to build a big enough attraction that you’ll always remember, and have to visit again and again. Who can resist heading to the top of the Eiffel tower in Paris (it’s great at night -watch the Bellagio water presentation from a totally new vantage point). Or stroll along the canal’s of the Venetian.

It all puts you in a completely different state of mind - and makes you realize that anything is possible.

Things I Want My Daughters To Know

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

I just finished a book up yesterday called Things I Want My Daughters To Know by Alexandra Stoddard. I’ve read a few of her books, and this book’s title called to me while sitting on the shelf. What would a successful mother want to tell her daughters?

The book offers a wealth of advice. Each chapter is just a few pages long, but gives one important tip to living a better life. Her ideas range from “find your passion” to “live life your way”.

I try to read at least one book a week, so I vary the type of book. While I’ve read this type of book before, I like the approach Alexandra took with her writing. Instead of talking directly to her audience, she made her audience her daughters. And as such, she added the warmth and caring that comes when you speak to your own children.

This type of book is one you can buy and have sit on your nightstand. Pick it up and randomly choose a chapter each night before you go to bed. The insight will make you think about your own life, and how to be more on track every day.
